  1. Delhi govenment to form ‘Mahila Suraksha Dals’ to curb crimes against women in national capital Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said that, the Delhi government would form “Mahila Suraksha Dals” (women protection groups) to curb crimes against women in the national capital.   1. Uttar Pradesh tops in mobilising Jan Dhan Account Uttar Pradesh has topped in opening new Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts after demonetisation (post November 8, 2017). One-fifth of the more than five crore new PMJDY accounts, from Nov 9, 2016 to Nov 8, 2017 were opened in Uttar Pradesh. With this, the total accounts under PMJDY has crossed 4 crore in Uttar Pradesh. PMJDY is a scheme for comprehensive financial inclusion launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014. Objective: to ensure access to financial services, namely, Banking/ Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner.     1. Rajnath Singh chairs second meeting of Island Development Agency On Nov 8, 2017, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the second meeting of Island Development Agency (IDA) in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Admiral D.K. Joshi, who is also the Vice Chairman of IDA. Radha Mohan Singh inaugurates three-day Organic World Congress – 2017 in Greater Noida On 9th Nov 2017, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated the three-day Organic World Congress – 2017 at India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. 1,400 representatives from 110 countries, and 2000 delegates from India participated in the Organic World Congress – 2017. The goal is to move from organic India to the organic world. The Organic World Congress (OWC) is organized once every three years in a different country. The International Federation of Organic Farming Movements (IFOAM) and Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI) are organizing the event.   1. Power Ministry sets up panel under P.D. Siwal to probe NTPC’s Unchahar plant accident On Nov 1, 2017, a boiler blast accident occurred at NTPC’s Unchahar plant in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh in which 36 people lost their lives. Union Power Ministry has set up a panel to probe this accident. NTPC’s Unchahar plant accident: Union Power Ministry has set up a committee headed by P.D.   1. Gujarat becomes first state to slash VAT on petrol, diesel; cuts taxes by 4% Gujarat state government announced a 4 % reduction in VAT (Value Added Tax) on petrol and diesel. It has thereby become the first state to cut VAT on fuel. On account of this decision, petrol will get cheaper by Rs 2.93 and diesel by Rs 2.72 across Gujarat from the midnight of Tuesday and Wednesday.
