  1. 562 more Ekalavya schools for tribals soon: Oram The government will set up 562 more Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in tribal areas across the country that will be on par with the Navodaya Vidyalayas. Detailing about the budgetary provisions for budget 2018-19, Oram said 271 EMRSs have already been sanctioned out of which 190 are currently operational.   1. Gadkari releases India’s first ‘Highway Capacity Manual’ Union minister Nitin Gadkari released country’s first ever Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) which will guide road engineers and policy makers about road expansion. The manual known as ‘Indo-HCM’ has been developed by CSIR-CRRI on the basis of an extensive, country-wide study of the traffic characteristics on different categories of roads like single lane, two-lane, multi-lane urban roads, inter- urban highways and expressways and the associated intersections on these roads. The manual lays down guidelines for when and how to expand or manage different types of roads and their intersections and the level of services to be put in place.   1. NITI Aayog launches ‘Healthy States Progressive India Report’; Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu best performers In an effort to better assess health outcomes across India, the NITI Aayog on Friday launched the Healthy States Progressive Report. Released by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, Ministry of Health Secretary Preeti Sudan. This report is the first step to establish an annual systematic tool to measure and understand the complexity of nation’s performance in health. As per the report, among larger states, Kerala, Punjab and Tamil Nadu ranked on top in terms of overall performance, while Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh are the top three ranking states in terms of annual incremental performance.   1. Maharashtra govt approves new wildlife sanctuary at Ghodazari Maharashtra State Government has approved Ghodazari in Chandrapur district as a new wildlife sanctuary in the state. The new wildlife sanctuary will include 159 sq km of Brahmapuri forest. This decision will not only help in conserving the forest but will also benefit nearly 40 villages in the region on account of consequential increase of tourism related activities.   2. Govt makes PAN mandatory for transactions over Rs. 2.5 lakh As announced in Union Budget 2018, providing Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be mandatory for any entity entering into a financial transaction of Rs 2.5 lakh or more with effect from April 1, 2018. As per Finance Bill 2018, through which the Budget is passed, Permanent Account Number (PAN) would be used as Unique Entity Number for non-individuals. Nagaland declared as ‘disturbed area’ for 6 more months A home ministry official said the decision to continue the declaration of Nagaland as “disturbed area” has been taken as killings, loot and extortion have been going in various parts of the state which necessitated the action for the convenience of the security forces operating there.
