  1. PM Narendra Modi to Chair Fourth Meeting Of NITI Aayog’s Governing Council  Fourth meeting of NITI Aayog’s Governing Council has began at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra modi. Various issues have been expected to be discuss on this meeting including measures taken to double farmers’ income. The progress of flagship schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, National Nutrition Mission and Mission Indradhanush; development of aspirational districts; and celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi also to be discussed during this meeting. The development agenda for ‘New India 2022’ was also expected to be approved. 2. Telangana govt to set up Child Protection Units in all 31 districts Telengana Government will plan to set up Telangana govt to set up ‘District Child Protection Units (DCPU)’ in all 31 districts to protect the children from child abuse ,child labour and also to implement the child rights in all districts. Women and Children welfare department Secretary M Jagadeeshwar informed that ‘District Child Protection Units (DCPU)’ were already established in 10 districts and plan to extend another 21 districts of the state by next two months. The main aim of the development of DCPU is to protection of children,besides anti-trafickking and also to implement juvenile justice act. 3. Meghalaya to implement Ayushman Bharat Health scheme As per the MoU has signed with Union Health Ministry, Meghalaya Health Minister A L Hek has informed that Meghalaya government will implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM). He also informed that state would merge its own Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) with the AB-NHPM. The existing health insurance cover is Rs 2,80,000 under Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS)  while the AB-NHPM will provide a cover of Rs 5 lakh per family annually. 4. WhatsApp Introduced payments service in India

  1. Cashless Ticketing through ‘Utsonmobile’ app developed by CRIS (Centre for Railway Information System) The Utsonmobile application enables booking and cancellation of unreserved tickets, issue and renewal of season and platform tickets, check and load R-wallet balance and lets to maintain user profile management and booking history. It is very handy, free and available for Android and Windows smart phone. It can be downloaded from Google Play Store or Windows for free. The passenger has to register using his/her mobile number, name, city, default booking train type, class, ticket type, number of passenger and frequently travelling routes. 2. US government clears sale of six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to India for $ 930M United States government approved a deal to sell the Indian military six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters for 930 million dollars. The agreement has been passed to the US Congress for approval. If no US lawmaker makes an objection the contract will be proceeded. Boeing and Indian partner Tata have started production of Apache fuselages at a plant in India But this approval involves a direct sale of finished products from the US manufacturers. The contract also includes night vision sensors, GPS guidance and hundreds of Hellfire anti-armour and Stinger air-to-air missiles. 3. Kohli conferred with Polly Umrigar award 2018 Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli was awarded the Polly Umrigar Award for the best international cricketer at the BCCI Annual Awards in Bengaluru.Virat Kohli was awarded for his outstanding performance in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana were awarded their first BCCI awards for the best international cricketer (women) for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season, respectively. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen delivered the 6th MAK Pataudi Memorial Lecture at the BCCI award. He has become the first non-Indian cricketer to deliver the opening speech of the award ceremony. 4. USA, Canada & Mexico wins bid to host 2026 Football World

  1. Dr Jitendra announces Rs 28 cr ‘Brahmaputra Study Centre’ for Guwahati Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh  announced Government’s approval for setting up of an exclusive “Brahmaputra Study Centre” at Gauhati University, Guwahati, for which a fund of Rs.27.9933 crore will be provided by the Ministry of Northeast / DoNER. With the Ministry taking responsibility for fully funding this Centre, for the recurring component however, he said, the funding shall be decided after the details are submitted by the Gauhati University to the Ministry of Northeast /DoNER with the proposed phasing, etc. 2. India, US, Japan all set for Malabar exercise with China in the crosshairs Indian warships are now steaming towards the Western Pacific to take part in the top-notch Malabar naval exercise with the US and Japan off Guam, with the three countries keen to further bolster “interoperability” in the Indo-Pacific amidst China’s continuing aggr essive moves in the region. India will be fielding its stealth frigate INS Sahyadri, missile corvette INS Kamorta and fleet tanker INS Shakti as well as P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft for the Malabar exercise from June 6 to 15. Interestingly, the three warships held India’s first naval exercise with Vietnam last week while being on operational deployment to South East Asia and North West Pacific. 3. IMD teams up with BSNL to send extreme weather warnings The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is teaming up with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited(BSNL) to send extreme weather warnings to people. The move comes after the IMD came under criticism from several quarters, including some state governments for not sending out specific alerts, a charge denied by the weather body.  The area specific alerts will be sent to users if they are in that particular place where the extreme weather pattern is going to occur, even if their phone numbers

  1. Prakash Javdekar launches the Samagra Shiksha scheme for school education Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday launched Samagra Shiksha scheme for school education. The scheme focuses on improving quality of education, enhancing the Learning outcomes and using technology to empower children and teachers. The objectives of the scheme include —provision of quality education —-enhancing learning outcomes of students —bridging social and gender gaps in school education and promoting vocationalisation of education — Strengthening teacher education institutions like SCERTs and Diets to improve quality of teachers   2. Indo-Nepal joint military exercise SuryaKiran XIII at Pithoragarh The 13-day Indo Nepal joint military exercise is set to begin in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand from May 30. Suryakiran-13, as the exercise has been named, will be see the participation by as many as 300 Army personnel from both India and Nepal. Anti-terror operations will also be part of the exercise that will conclude on June 12. The exercise will also lay focus on preparedness to meet disaster management challenges. India and Nepal that share borders and are culturally linked have been conducting joint military exercises for long. 3. NIC sets up cloud-enabled National Data Centre in Bhubaneswar IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad is all set to inaugurate, on May 28, a cloud-enabled National Data Centre at Bhubaneswar, which will offer round-the-clock operations with secure hosting for e-governance applications of ministries and departments. The NIC has national data centres at Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune, and the upcoming one at Bhubaneswar is expected to enhance the range of data centre related services offered by the government body. The cloud services will provide benefits like on-demand access to ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructure for easy availability and quick deployment of applications and standardised platforms of deployment. 4. Cabinet approves restructured Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a restructured Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) aimed at building infrastructure and stepping up initiatives for e-governance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the scheme on National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24. The scheme will focus on training, building infrastructure, stepping up initiatives for e-governance under the e-Panchayat Mission Mode Project (MMP). The scheme will extend to all states and Union Territories and will also include institutions of rural local government in non-Part IX areas, where panchayats do not exist. The sharing ratio for the state components will be 60:40 barring the Northeast and hilly states where it will be 90:10. 2. Diu Smart City becomes first to run on 100% Renewable Energy during Daytime  Diu Smart City has become the first city in India, that runs on 100% renewable energy during daytime setting a new benchmark for other cities to become clean and green. Diu had been importing 73% of its power from Gujarat until last year. It has now adopted a two-pronged approach whereby a 9 MW solar park spread over 50 hectares rocky barren land has been developed besides installing solar panels on the roof tops on 79 government buildings thereby generating 1.3 MW annually. To further enhance its solar capacity, Diu offers its residents a subsidy of Rs 10, 000-50,000 for installing 1-5KW roof top solar panels. Diu is saving about 13,000 tonnes of carbon emissions every year. 3. India govt approves death sentence for child rapists India’s government approved the death penalty for child rapists, after the gang rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl and a series of other horrific sexual assaults caused nationwide outrage.   1. Smriti Irani launches GNFC’s Neem project in UP Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC’s) Neem Project in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh. Under this project, GNFC intends to collect 8,000 to 10,000 MT Neem seeds from Uttar Pradesh,  which in turn will provide additional income of Rs 12-15 crore for over one lakh rural woman from 2,500 villages in the State. The project will not only provide additional income to rural women but will also help in fulfilling Prime Minister’s vision of Neem-coated urea in the interest of millions of farmers of the country. GNFC has been running Neem Project since 2015, in over 60 districts of five states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan. 2. Kotak Bank goes past SBI to become India’s 2nd most valuable lender Market capitalisation of Kotak Mahindra Bank, for the first time surpassed that of State Bank of India. Market value of a company’s outstanding shares is referred to as market capitalisation (m-cap). It is calculated by multiplying the current market value of company’s share with total outstanding shares. At the end of the trading day on April 16, 2018, Kotak Mahindra Bank’s market capitalisation rose to Rs 2.23 lakh crore compared with SBI’s market cap of Rs 2.22 lakh crore.  On account of this surge, Kotak Mahindra Bank has become the second-most valuable bank in India after HDFC Bank. 3. India expected to grow at 7.4% in 2018: IMF As per latest World Economic Outlook, released by International Monetary Fund (IMF) on April 17, 2018, Indian economy is projected to grow 7.4% in the current fiscal i.e. FY 2018-19 and accelerate further in FY 2019-20 to 7.8%. The report has outlined that  in the medium term, there will be a gradual increase in India’s growth rate as structural reforms raise potential output and Indian will

  1. Indian economy has recovered from impact of demonetisation, GST: World Bank Report As per World Bank’s bi-annual South Asia Economic Focus report released on April 15, 2018, Indian economy has recovered from the adverse impacts of demonetisation (in November 2016) and roll out of Goods and Services Tax (in July 2017). World Bank’s outlook on Indian Economy: Owing to recovery from above stated events, Indian economy is projected to grow by 7.3% in 2018 and 7.5% in 2019. Indian recovery will again make South Asia region, the world’s fastest growing region. South Asian region as a whole is projected to grow at 6.9% in 2018 and 7.1% in 2019. However, the report cautioned that despite growth, India was not creating enough jobs. As per the report, India must create 8.1 million jobs a year to maintain its employment rate. 2. US, Nigeria hold military summit in Abuja The first African Land Forces Summit (ALFS) began on April 16, 2018 in Nigerian capital, Abuja.  ALFS 2018 is hosted by U.S. Army Africa and Armed Forces Nigeria. This weeklong Summit brings together land force chiefs from across Africa for candid dialog aimed at improving security and stability across the continent. Representatives from U.S. Army, NATO allies and military leaders of almost every African country are participating in this Summit. Discussions at the Summit would also address threat to security posed by militant outfits like Al-Shabaab (in the east Africa) and Boko Haram (in west Africa). 3. China to launch new weather satellite – Fengyun-II 09 China authorities said that, China will launch Fengyun-II 09 satellite, a new meteorological satellite, in 2018 to enhance its weather forecasting capabilities. The Fengyun-II 09 satellite is the last in the Fengyun-II series. It will collect meteorological, maritime, and hydrological data to help weather forecast in China and neighbouring regions. The satellite will be launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in
