GST relief for industrial units in Himalayan, NE region till 2027 Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval to the Scheme of providing Budgetary Support under Goods and Service Tax (GST) Regime for the eligible industrial units located in State of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and North Eastern States including Sikkim. Budgetary support of Rs. 27,413 crore for the said Scheme has been approved for the period from 1.7.2017 till 31.03.2027 for such industrial units located in aforesaid States which availed the benefit of Central Excise exemption prior to coming into force of GST regime. It is estimated that total number of 4284 eligible units located in the State(s) of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and North Eastern States including Sikkim will benefit from the above scheme. 2. Lok Sabha passes State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill, 2017 The Lok Sabha passed State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill 2017 to repeal the SBI (Subsidiary Banks) Act 1959, State Bank of Hyderabad Act 1956 and to further amend the State Bank of India Act, 1955, following the merger of five associates with the parent State Bank of India. From April 1, 2017, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ), State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH), State Bank of Mysore (SBM), State Bank of Patiala (SBP), State Bank of Travancore (SBT) and Bharatiya Mahila Bank were merged into State Bank of India (SBI). On account of this merger, these subsidiary banks ceased to exist and, therefore, it became necessary to repeal the SBI India (Subsidiary Banks) Act and the State Bank of Hyderabad Act which established these subsidiaries. 2.   1.Maharashtra Government to raise $270 mn from Green Climate Fund The 2030 Water Resources Group (2030WRG) will help the Maharashtra Government to raise $270 million from the Green Climate Fund, which will be invested in integrated watershed programmes in the state. For raising money from the Green Climate Fund, Maharashtra State Level Climate Change Committee will endorse the proposal next week, after which it would be referred to the Central Government.   1.Govt merges NCRB with BPRD Union Home Ministry passed an order to merge the three-decade old National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD). Government has taken this decision with an aim to improve administrative efficiency and optimal utilisation of resources. The BPRD Director General (DG) will be the head of the merged new entity, where the NCRB Director, an Additional DG rank post will report to the former.   2. PNB customers to pay higher charges for non-credit services PNB customers will have to pay charges for depositing cash above Rs 5,000 in a non-base branch. Currently, the customers of Punjab National Bank (PNB) are levied charges only for depositing cash over Rs 25,000 at a non-base branch within the same city. Second AGRI UDAAN program launched in Delhi In an attempt to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture, Government launched “AGRI UDAAN”- Food and Agribusiness Accelerator 2.0 programme in New Delhi on August 4, 2017.  The program will be run by ICAR-NAARM Technology Business Incubator (TBI), a-IDEA and Indian Institute of Management Ahmadabad’s Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE). This is a 6 month program in which shortlisted agri startups with promising innovative business models will be mentored & guided to scale up their operations.     2.   1.Canara Bank launches “”CANDI””-its first digital branch in Bengaluru Canara Bank has launched its first ‘Digital Banking Branch’ at Spencer Towers in MG Road, Bengaluru. The branch is titled “CANDI” and its aim to provide an end-to-end digital experience to customers. It will enable customers to get most of the information related to their accounts without visiting the branch. The bank becomes the first in the public sector category to initiate artificial intelligence in banking.   1.18th Kargil Vijay Diwas observed  The 18th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated across India to commemorate the success of Operation Vijay and remember brave sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the 1999 India-Pakistan Kargil War. The war took place between May and July of 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil district.
